Sanl\u00facar de Barrameda\u00b4s strategical situation, on the commercial route that connected the port of Seville with the American continent, crucially influenced the cities development. Due to the importance of the commercial and trading harbor of Sanl\u00facar, the city became the residence for merchants and a point of origen of many religious orders that travelled to evangelize the New World, building unique palaces and convents in our city.<\/p>\n

ITINERARY<\/strong><\/p>\n

We will start the Route at the Santa \u00c1ngela de la Cruz Square.<\/p>\n

A.- San Francisco (Saint Francis) Church<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

17th<\/sup> Century. The Franciscans Order was based here. Nowadays it is \u201cLa Salle\u201d Saint Francis School . In the church, Classicist-Baroque style, you can find the headquarters for the Brotherhoods of the Santo Entierro and of the Silencio.<\/p>\n

B.- San Nicolas (Saint Nicholas) Parish<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

17th<\/sup> Century. Headquarters for the Brotherhood of Jes\u00fas de la Expiraci\u00f3n (17th<\/sup> century) and Our Lady of Esperanza (Hope)<\/p>\n

Santo Domingo Street<\/strong><\/p>\n

C.- Santo Domingo (Saint Dominic) Church<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

16th\u00a0Century. One of the most noteworthy monuments in Sanl\u00facar. It is made completely of ashlars stone. The area under the choir loft has an outstanding carving. The tombs of the Counts of Niebla and the sculpture of the Virgen of Rosario known as \u201cLa Galeona\u201d are also remarkable in this building.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Ancha Street<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nowadays it is one of the main streets in Sanl\u00facar. It was formerly known as Ancha de los Mesones (taverns) due to being very numerous in the area.<\/p>\n

\u00a0San Jorge Street<\/strong><\/p>\n

D.- San Jorge (Saint George) Church<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

17th\u00a0Century. Former religious center in the English merchants\u2019 quarter. It currently hosts Sanl\u00facars Brotherhood of El Roc\u00edo<\/p>\n

E.- Regina Coeli Convent<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

16th\u00a0Century. Baroque style. Home of the nuns of St Clare Order.<\/p>\n

Regina Street<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0F.-\u00a0Sant\u00edsima Trinidad (Holy Trinity) Church<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Built in the 15th\u00a0Century and founded by Alonso Fern\u00e1ndez de Lugo, conqueror of the island of La Palma. The tombstone (15th<\/sup> century) and the coffered ceiling of the prebystery are a noteworthy view, where you can appreciate the powerful influence of Am\u00e9rica in the coffering.<\/p>\n

San Roque Square<\/strong><\/p>\n

G.- Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de los Desamparados <\/span>(Our Lady of the Defenseless) Church<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

17th\u00a0Century. Baroque Style. Treasures interesting Baroque-style carvings.<\/p>\n

Torno Street<\/p>\n

H.- Madre de Dios (Mother of God) Church<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

15th\u00a0Century. Beautiful baroque-style fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n

Madre de Dios (Mother of God) Square<\/strong><\/p>\n

Small but elegant Square where you can appreciate the Baroque styled windows of the Convent of Madre de Dios (Mother of God)<\/p>\n

Ba\u00f1os Street<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fa\u00e7ade of the bodega (winery) and the Palace of Orle\u00e1ns-Borb\u00f3n are spectacular. They are from the 19th<\/sup> Century.<\/p>\n

Pasaje Virgen de las Angustias Street<\/strong><\/p>\n

I.- Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Carmen (Our Lady of Carmen) Parish.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

17th\u00a0Century. It was the church of the former Carmelitas Descalzas convent.<\/p>\n

Pradillo Square<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fa\u00e7ade of the former Palace of Los Moreda (17th<\/sup> century) stands out.<\/p>\n

Divina Pastora Street<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Palace of the Marquis of the Ariz\u00f3n House (18th\u00a0Century) is a noteworthy sight. Old residence of the merchants of the Americas.<\/p>\n

J.- Marquis of Ariz\u00f3n Palace<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

18th<\/sup> Century. An outstanding example a house of the Merchants of the Americas. It has a lookout tower.<\/p>\n

Capuchinos Hill<\/strong><\/p>\n

K.- Capuchinos (Capuchins) Convent<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

17th\u00a0Century. Was the headquarters for the missionaries whose mission was to evangelize the Americas.<\/p>\n
