BACKGROUND
The Sanlúcar City Council has among its objectives to contribute, through wine tourism, to the socioeconomic development of the municipality.
And to this end, it promotes systematized tourism policies within its territory, while coordinating the various tourism stakeholders in order to build a consolidated offer on wine tourism issues aimed at the wines of the region.
The interest of visitors in both natural landscapes and landscapes of traditional crops has been increasing in recent decades, mainly due to the greater awareness of society regarding the conservation of the environmental environment and ancestral economic cultures.
This City Council is aware of the need to adapt public infrastructure, until now oriented towards agricultural exploitation, to tourist uses. To this end, it has specified certain areas of interest that would allow a greater tourist attraction of the vineyard landscape.
Even though the Marco de Jerez has a large extension of vineyards of extraordinary natural, cultural and wine-growing value, currently the sectors involved in wine tourism are wineries and service establishments in the accommodation and restaurant area.
In this sense, it should be noted that the wine tourism offer of Sanlúcar de Barrameda is also eminently urban in nature, with the existing tourist activities and products being directly associated with the majority of the traditional wineries that are part of the urban area, and yet it is The offer associated with the architectural heritage and the landscape of the rural environment of the wine industry is still very scarce, such as rural roads, vineyards, farm houses and wineries, which are also of obvious wine tourism, artistic historical and anthropological interest, and yet, practically unknown until now.
The excellent location of Sanlúcar de Barrameda accompanied by a climate that allows the creation of tourism products that integrate interactive sustainable resources, together with the trend of enjoying quality of life in natural environments, favors completing the range of existing wine tourism services with the creation of an attractive tourist proposal in the rural environment.
The enhancement of the vineyard from a tourist point of view contributes to valuing the rural territory, the vineyards, the vineyard houses, and the environment, promoting the development of the agricultural economy.
The vineyard will thus become a space for leisure in which multiple tourist activities will be carried out (horseback riding, cycle tourism, hiking, interpretive activities, bird watching, etc.).
The making available of ITI funds for the implementation of the Marco de Jerez Wine Tourism Route by the Provincial Delegation of Rural Development, which is managed through the GDR of the Campiña de Jerez and Northwest Coast of Cádiz, has been an opportunity unique and important to begin this action that is the subject of the subsidy developed: IMPROVEMENT AND LANDSCAPE CONDITIONING OF THE MIRAFLORES ROAD OF ARMIJO DE SANLUCAR DE BARRAMEDA IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE ROUTE THROUGH THE VINEYARDS OF THE REGION OF JEREZ, INCLUDED WITHIN THE AID PROGRAM PROVIDED FOR IN THE RURAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF THE JEREZ COUNTRYSIDE AND NORTHWEST COAST OF CADIZ OF THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, LIVESTOCK, FISHERIES AND AGRI-FOOD CHAIN OF THE JUNTA DE ANDALUCIA.
OBJECT AND PURPOSE
The general objectives that have been established to undertake this type of recovery initiatives for the vineyards of the Jerez region for their adaptation to tourist uses are the following:
-Promote rural tourism activity, based on endogenous and wine tourism resources as a driver of economic development of the territory.
-Enhancement of rural heritage, revaluing a degraded space of great landscape value for the wine tourism route.
-Integrative development through participation and identification with the project by the Rural and Urban population.
-Environmental recovery and quality of rural life, improving accessibility to the vineyards by putting into service a rural road, establishing a physical line that provides various walks around the vineyards.
OBJECTIVES, SCOPE AND ACTIONS THE PROJECT OBJECT OF ACTION
The project called IMPROVEMENT AND LANDSCAPE CONDITIONING OF THE MIRAFLORES ROAD OF ARMIJO DE SANLUCAR DE BARRAMEDA IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE ROUTE THROUGH THE VINEYARDS OF THE JEREZ REGION, INCLUDED WITHIN THE AID PROGRAM PROVIDED FOR IN THE RURAL DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF THE JEREZ COUNTRYSIDE AND NORTHWEST COAST OF CADIZ OF THE COUNCIL OF AGRICULTURE, LIVESTOCK, FISHING AND AGRI-FOOD CHAIN OF THE BOARD OF ANDALUCIA., has the OBJECTIVE of starting a Wine Tourism route in Sanlúcar de Barrameda that allows to highlight the vineyards, rural roads and vineyard houses and thus completing the range of wine tourism services existing on the Marco de Jerez Wine and Brandy Route, all of which is also framed in the “Pagos del Sherry” project, promoted by said Marco de Jerez Wine and Brandy Route, and which It is aimed at enjoying the vineyard environment in all its aspects: landscape, natural, cultural, historical and food and wine.
The Camino de Miraflores Del Armijo, of municipal public ownership, runs between traditional vineyards and vineyard houses in an environment of great scenic interest, in one of the areas with the highest elevation of the municipality, developing with gentle slopes, making it very easy to navigate. transit through it both on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. It has a wide panoramic view of the surrounding countryside, practically throughout the entire route seeing the most remote vineyards in the gentle valleys of its perimeter. On the horizon to the northwest you can see a wide strip of the Atlantic Ocean and the municipality of Chipiona, with outstanding architectural elements such as its lighthouse, one of the highest in Europe. To the north you can see the Doñana National Park, in Huelva, and to the northwest the municipality of Trebujena.
Regarding environmental interest, the quantity and variety of birds that populate this environment near Doñana can be highlighted, with kestrels, owls and booted eagles being easy to spot. Bird watching is one of the activities of greatest interest in these rural areas that have not been frequented until now for this purpose.
ACTIONS COLLECTED IN THE PROJECT:
Rehabilitation or surface renovation of the esplanade of the Camino de Miraflores del Armijo, restoring and improving its surface characteristics, improving its load-bearing capacity of the existing pavement, adapting them to its functional and durability needs.
Repair and construction of ditches, through re-profiling, clearing, cleaning and subsequent execution of ditches on the right and left banks and drainage channels for their correct functioning during the rainy seasons.
Reforestation of the space with tree and shrub species typical of the natural or traditional vegetation of the area.
Installation of signage that collects information about the itinerary, interpretation of the landscape and singular points with relevant aspects of the itinerary.
